~ Tutorial Thursday...Hogs & Kisses Shaker Card ~

Hello Everyone!

Nicolette here sharing with you today a step-by step tutorial on how to make one of my very favorite things to do....a shaker card.  I love tags and I LOVE making shaker cards so I decided to combine the two!!!

~ Here is What You Need ~

~ Image colored with Copics ~
Pig:  R00 R01 R02
Hooves:  C1 C3 C5 C7
Flower:  Y11 Y17 Y18
Cast Shadow:  BV20

~ Step-by-Step ~

STEP 1:  Color image with Copics or coloring medium of choice.  Trim around image. Add Nuvo Ebony Black Crystal Drops to center of flower.  Set aside to dry.

STEP 2:  Die cut two white tags using the second largest tag from the Large Stitched Tags Die Set.  Using the smooth edged heart die from the Scalloped Heart Die Set, die cut the heart out of one of the tags.  Make sure to NOT cut the heart too close to the edges of the tag.  You need room to add foam tape around the edge to make the shaker.  I use an easy to release tape to make sure my die doesn't shift while die cutting.

STEP 3:  Using the heart stencil from the Hearts & Harlequin Layering Stencil Set, emboss the tag you just cut the heart out of.  This will create the window for the shaker.

STEP 4:  Using the second smallest flag from the Long Flags Die Set, die cut a flag from white cardstock and one from black cardstock.  Stamp sentiment using Versafine Onyx Black Ink.  This is my favorite ink to stamp sentiments from clear stamp sets.  It gives a crisp black image.

STEP 5:  Using the largest scalloped rectangle die from the Scalloped Rectangles Die Set, die cut a black piece of cardstock.  Cut a 4 3/4" x # 1/4" piece of patter paper and adhere to the black scalloped rectangle.  Set aside.  Adhere white flag offset to black flag...this will leave a small black edge on the right side.

STEP 6:  Lay flag with sentiment on top of tag with heart window and place where you want it to go.  Lay tag die on top and secure with an easy to release piece of tape.  Remove from tag and die cut the flag.  See picture above to see what it will look like after doing this step.

STEP 7:  Using the same heart die as above, die cut a heart from pattern paper.  Lay the tag with the heart opening on top of the other tag.  Adhere adhesive to back of heart and adhere heart to tag through the heart opening.  This will allow perfect placement for the heart onto the tag.

STEP 8:  Using the tag reinforcement die from the Large Stitched Tags Die Set, die cut a reinforcement out of black cardstock, fold over and adhere to top of tag.  Cut a 3" x 3" piece of heavy weight acetate and adhere to back of tag.

STEP 9:  Adhere a double layer of foam tape all around the tag and to the back of the colored image.  Make sure there are no openings around the heart shape so the shaker bits will not fall out.  I always use a double layer of foam tape to make my shaker cards...this gives the shaker bits room to move around.

STEP 10:  Lay your shaker bits of choice on top of the heart shape making sure none of the shaker bits are hanging out past the edge of the heart.  Line up and adhere the tag with the window on top.

STEP 11:  Using my Copic R02 Marker, I colored a piece of twill to match my image.  I colored both sides of the ribbon.  This is a great technique to use when you do not have the perfect color of ribbon to use on your project!  Make sure it dries before tying to your project.

STEP 12: Adhere foam tape to the back of the shaker tag, the black scalloped rectangle and to the flag.  Remove only part of the backing of foam tape on the tag where you want to add the cheesecloth.  Stretch and scrunch the cheesecloth to your liking.  Add adhesive to the cheesecloth.  I just use my tape runner.

STEP 13:  Remove the backing from the foam tape and adhere pieces to card base.  Mine is an A2 card (4 1/4" x 11...scored at 5 1/2").

STEP 14:  Adhere rhinestone to flag.

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial on how to make a shaker card and it inspires you to make one, too!!!

Happy Stamping!
