Tutorial Thursday - Cracked Glass and Faux Porcelain Embellishments

Hi All,
Debbie here today with a couple of fun little techniques using UTEE embossing powder. I've created a card with a Cracked Glass technique image and faux porcelain embellishments - I hope you like it.

Here's what you do.....

You'll need
A coloured image
Die cut an paper embellishments
Versamark Ink
Clear UTEE powder
Melting Pot
Heat Tool
Teflon Mat
Plastic Tweezers

I coloured up Time Flies Marci, cut her out and attached her to a Stitched Circle die cut piece of patterned paper

Then apply Versamark ink and UTEE powder - you'll need to do this approx. 3-4 times to get a nice even glassy finish. Set your finished piece in the freezer for about 10 minutes to make the embossed layer nice and crisp. You can use regular clear embossing powder to do this but you'll need a few more layers.

Take your piece out of the freezer and immediately twist gently to create cracks. If You're not happy with the result use your heat gun to re-melt and try again. Sometimes the embossed layer separates if do this but it will only add to the finished distressed look.

For the embellishments melt some UTEE powder in your melting pot.

Collect your embellishments - here I have some paper flowers, some die cut Small and Medium Rolled Roses and some die cut Creepy Vines

Once the UTEE has melted completed dip your embellishments to coat and lift to drain off the excess. Set on your teflon mat.

For unwired pieces use plastic tweezers to dip - metal ones may damage the non-stick surface of your pot.

Here you can see the difference between the dipped items and the undipped ones. The UTEE makes them hard, glossy and deepens the colour.

If you end up with excess drips on your pieces you can cut them off and and soften the cut edge using your heat tool. You can also pop any bubbles by gently using your heat tool.

And here's my finished card. The UTEE does add a unique look to your embellishments and works well with the Cracked Glass Technique.

The Faux Porcelain also looks great mixed with a simple coloured image - here's a small gift bag I decorated using Cheeky Monkey Marci (Retired), Rolled Roses and Berry Flourish.

One thing to remember - the UTEE adds some weight to the card so I suggest it's not a technique to use if you're planning on posting your finished card internationally.

I hope you like this idea and you're inspired to give it a go.

Until next time....Happy Stamping
Debbie
