Tutorial Thursday: Winter box

Today I'm sharing with you a tutorial on how to make a small Winter box. The idea is not originaly mine, I got it here, but I did make a few changes and most of all, I used la-la land crafts stamps and dies to decorate it.

What you need:

kraft cardstock 

white cardstock

design paper

drawer handle

embellishments (paper flowers, lace flower)

white crackle paint

strong adhesive

tube (can be from any kind of tape)

scissors

scoring board

scor tape 

crop-a-dile

 Step 1:

Take a 2" high and 3 2/8" wide tube. The tube can be from duck tape or from any other tape. I got mine from the post office. You can buy very long tubes for sending large rolled stuff. I took it to the carpenter and he cut these for me. You can easily cut it with a crafting knife.

Make two marks on the top of the tube which should be 2" apart and cut down with scissors. You get 2x2" big piece of the tube.

Step 2:

Cut two piecec of cardstock, one 2" x 12" and the other one 2" x 5". I used I love winter design paper from Echo park.

Apply adhesive on the back.

Step 3:

Carefuly adhere the smaller piece of the tube to the smaller piece of the design paper. Adhere it to the middle of it and then fold both pieces to the inside, so that it gets covered all arround.

Do the same with the bigger piece of the tube.

Step 4:

Cut 5 2/8" x 6" rectangle from kraft paper and score at 1 3/4" and 3.5" (the shorter side). Then turn the paper arround and score at 1 3/4 and 4 1/4".

Cut like on the picture.

Make folds.

Step 5:

Apply strong adhesive on all flaps and on the front of the drawer.

Step 6:

If you wish to decorate the inside too, then cut:

1x     1 5/8" x 1 5/8" (red design paper)

2x     1 5/8 x 2 4/8" (red design paper)

2x     1 5/8" x 1 5/8" (striped design paper)

3x     1 5/8 x 2 4/8" (striped design paper)

 

Adhere the squares and rectangles cut from design paper to the inside and to the outside.

Before you adhere the smaller squares on the inside you have to adhere the flaps first!!!!! 

Step 7:

Make a hole in the centre of the smaller tube piece and to the front side of the drawer (the one with adhesive).

Take the smallest die from Pierced scalloped circles and cut it out from kraft paper. Make a hole in the middle.

Step 8:

Place the drawer handle through the die cut, tube and drawer.

Step 9:

Make die cuts from kraft paper and design paper. Stamp the sentiment on a small piece of white cardstock.

Stamp the image, colour it up and then die cut it with stitched circles die. Adhere striped circles to pierced scalloped circles.

Step 10:

Take strong liquid adhesive and apply it to the top and bottom edge of the bigger piece of the tube. Start with bottom first and then place the pierced scalloped circle on. When dried do the same with the bottom (stripes must face up on both).

 

 Step 11:

Decorate the top. At the end apply some white crackle paint to the edges and glitter to the scarf.

Tutorial Thursday - Post it notes holder

Today I'm sharing with you a tutorial on how to make a quick gift - a post it note holder. You can make these cute holders for different occasions like Birthday, Christmas, Thank you ... Having a few post it notes and a pencil in a bag is always a good idea. We often come across a situation where we would need something to write and a piece of paper, that's why these holders are perfect. 

I got the idea from the internet. I made a few changes, added some things and make it mine.

Soooo ... here is the tutorial. I hope you'll like it.

What you need:

white cardstock  

craft cardstock

design paper

stretch ribbon or lace

2 eyelets

corner rounder

scissors

scoring board

scor tape 

crop-a-dile

la-la land crafts items you need:

Life is Sweet Rubber Stamps 

Double Stitched Circles

Pierced Scalloped Circles

Stitched Nested Circles

Step 1:

Cut white cardstock at 3.5" x 7.5". Take your scoring board and score at 3 1/8", 3 1/2" and 3 7/8". You'll see that the first part is shorter than the other one.

Step 2:

Fold at the middle score line. Take your scissors and make the first cut at 1 2/8" and the other one at 2 2/8". Cut from the fold to the score line!!! (see picture) The distance between two cuts is 1". Fold like shown on the picture. You now have the base for the holder.

Step 3:

Cut 4 rectangles from design paper of your choice. I used Maja design - Summertime collection. The size of rectangles is 3 5/8" x 3.5" (you need 2 of these) and 3 1/8" x 3,5" (you need two of these).

Take a corner rounder and cut off the corner on the outside lines of the base. Do the same with the design paper rectangles.

 

Step 4:

Adhere the design paper rectangles to the base (only the ones on the outside!!!). Then take your crop-a-dile and make two holes at the end of the longer side of the holder. The center of the holes is 5/8" from the outer edge and 1/2" from the top and the bottom. Place the eyelets into the holes and sqeeze with your crop-a-dile.

Step 5:

Take your stretch ribbon or lace and put it through the eyelets and adhere it on the inside of the holder. Put a lot of score tape on the last rectangle and adhere it over the inside the holder so that the lace leftovers are not seen anymore.

Place some score tape on the inside of the folder middle (look at the picture). Then after you adhered the design paper rectangle you adhere those two folds to the design paper.

You can see here how it looks like after you adhered everything.

Step 6:

We have our base done so it's time for some decorating. Cut out three circles. One scalloped circle from design paper, one stitched circle from craft cardstock and one stitched circle from watercolour paper. Colour the biggest rose from Life is sweet set. I used Distress markers. When you are cutting this one out make sure that the image is on the top of the circle.

Take Life is sweet sentiment from the same stamp set. Stamp it on craft cardstock and cut it out with your scissors. Then place it on the small piece of design paper and cut out just a bit bigger rectangle arround it.

Step 7:

Adhere watercolour circle to the craft circle and craft circle to the scalloped circle. Adhere sentiment on the design paper rectangle. Then take your holder and glue the scalloped circle to the center of the front. Then take your sentiment and adhere it under the coloured image (see picture). The last thing to do is to adhere stick it notes to the inside of the holder, add a pencil or small pen and that's it. Easy, right?

Tutorial Thursday - Gift bag

Hi and welcome to Tutorial Thursday. Tamara here with you today. I'll show you how I make and decorate small gift bags. I was asked by some ladies to make this tutorial and here we go.

To make this Owl Gift Bag you'll need:

craft cardstock

white cardstock

design paper

pink ribbon

enamel dots

paper flowers

2 magnets

scoring board

cutter & scissors 

adhesive 

glue gun 

dies

stamped image
corner rounder

Step 1:

Take your craft cardstock and cut out 11.5 x 10.5 inches big rectangle. Then put in on your scoring board and score at 0.5", 2.5", 6" and 8". After making these scores turn the paper arround and score at 2", 2.5" and 8.5". You also need to make scores on the side of the box (you need to turn the paper arround again to the first position), so it will close nicer. Those scores are at 1.5" and 7" (be careful not to score to the bottom. I usually score it down to 7.5", but it can go a bit further if you like).

... cut off all the excess acording to the picture bellow. You can now see the base of our gift bag.

Step 2:

Take your white cardstock and cut out 4 squares:

3 3/8" x 5 7/8"   x2

3 3/8" x 1 7/8"

3 3/8" x 3/8"

... then take your design paper and cut out another 4 sqares just 1/8 smaller than the ones from white cardstock:

3 2/8" x 5 6/8"  x2

3 2/8" x 1 6/8"

3 2/8" x 2/8"

Cut two additional squares from another design paper. They measure 3 3/8" x 3.5".

Step 3:

Take your coloured image and cut it out with stitched nested circles (I used cute Owl from Owl Love You Set).

.... remember those two extra rectangles? Take one die of the Double Stitched Hills Borders and cut off the top of those rectangles.

Step 4:

Prepare all the die cuts. To decorate this bag you'll need:

2x Double Stitched Hills Border

1x Scalloped Trim Banner 

1x Stitched Nested Circles

1x Cherry Blossom Branch

1x Heart Doily

1x Heart Banner

2x String of Hearts

2x Autumn Leaves

2x Blossoms die

Step 5:

Take your corner rounder and use it on the 3 3/8" x 1 7/8" rectangle and then on the matching rectangle from the design paper.

Step 6:

Start putting adhesive on the design paper and glue the design paper on to the white cardstock (I use strong double sided tape on my projects).

... this is the flap of the bag. After puting together white and coloured rectangle glue together two banners and put them on top. Then take your strawberry leaves and glue them in the middle of the banner. Finally add two small (2 cm and 1,5 cm) roses and the flap is done!

 Step 7:

Glue the small ractangles (the ones we used stitched hill border die on) on each of the big ones. Then take your prepared die cuts and first glue string of hearts on the bottom of each rectangle.

Then take heart doily and glue it on the middle of the rectangle. Put some foam dots behind the coloured image and place it on the heart doily.

Cut the Cherry blossom branch in half and glue it on each side of the image. Take Autumn leaves die cuts and put them on each side of the image.

Step 8:

Put a few paper flowers on both sides of the image. Make a small bow with the ribbon and glue it under the flowers on the right. Cut off the excess ribbon.

Step 9:

Glue all parts on to the bag base. Don't forget to glue the magnets first!!!! One to the flap and one to the base.

.... glue everything together!

Put adhesive on the tabs and close the bag together.

Step 10:

You can add glitter, enamel dots or any kind of embellishments you prefer!
