TUTORIAL THURSDAY ~STAMPING AND COLORING ON FABRIC~

STAMPING AND COLORING WITH COPIC MARKERS ON FABRIC

Hi there, it's Tracey here with your tutorial for this week. Today I will step you through how to stamp and colour a La-La Land image onto a cute little baby onesie. fabric acts very differently to card stock when using copic markers. Hopefully you will pick up some handy tricks and tips below.

STEP 1
Gather your supplies.
* Baby onesie. A fine, even weave of fabric is ideal.
* Ink. Memento or versafabric.
* Scrap cardstock. Use this to insert into garment to soak up excess ink whilst colouring.
* Copic markers. Colors appear darker on fabric than on card stock, so choose lighter colours than desired.

STEP 2
Stamp selected image onto fabric using Memento ink. Heat set with heat gun or iron to endure that it will not wash out when laundered.

STEP 3
Color image using copic markers. Markers tend to bleed a lot on fabric, so it is important to dab the marker lightly onto the centre of the area to be coloured, keeping well away from the stamped lines.
Use a very light hand and wait in between applications for the colour to spread to avoid bleeding. I have started with the mid tone yellow.

STEP 4
Carefully add the darkest yellow tone, but do not colour right up to the edges. It will spread.

STEP 5
Add the lightest tone to finish off. You can see that this last step has blended the yellows together a little.
Do not use colourless blender on fabric. It tends to pool and suck colour into the pool.

STEP 6
Finish off colouring, being sure to add very small amounts of colour at a time, and waiting for each colour to spread before adding more.
I added some dirt to ground the images, using different coloured dots.
Before use, iron garment to set the copic colours. I would recommend a gentle cold machine or hand wash in mild detergent.

STEP 7
Last but not least, my gorgeous little model Jordy, who just loves his new tractor onesie.
