Tutorial Thursday - Make Your Own Slimline Design

Hello everyone! Welcome to Tutorial Thursday!

MEG here with you today to share a tutorial with you!

Today's tutorial is:  Make Your Own Slimline Design

Slimline cards are SO! POPULAR these days - Did you know that you can "extend" your regular-sized frame-style dies to create your own slimline die look? It's easy-peasy and in this tutorial, I show you how to do it!

Here is a finished look at my project for today. The final dimensions are 8" x 4".

white cardstock - 8-1/2 x 8" (for card base, score and fold in half to make 4-1/4 x 8")
~ now for the tutorial you have been waiting for ~

This tutorial focuses on cutting on the long dies to produce your slimline base.

STEP 1. Cut your cardstock to the desired length. For the purposes of this tutorial, the brown cardstock will be used with the largest Scalloped Rectangle Die. I've cut it to 8" long (I want my card to be 8" long).

STEP 2. Position the die at one end of the cardstock. Place the top cutting plate part-way over the die, so that the entire piece does NOT cut out, as shown below.

STEP 3. After you run it through your die-cutting machine, the piece will look like below.

STEP 4. Now, take the same die and position it at the OTHER END of the cardstock (the uncut end). Make sure to line up the scallops by overlapping them a little bit, as shown below.

In the above photo, you can see where the initial cut ended (I trimmed the sides of the cardstock. See how much I've overlapped the die - about 5 scallops.

STEP 5. Now, cover the die with the top cutting plate, but make sure to only cover the portion of the cardstock NOT YET cut out as shown below.

STEP 6. Run through die cutting machine. You can repeat these same steps with the white cardstock piece and the Double Stitched Rectangle Die. The result will look like the below, voila!

STEP 7. Now you can do your decorating! Stencil your background, color and cut out your stamps, and design!

I hope you can see that this is a very versatile skill. You can add additional cut-outs on top to create holes, etc. SO MUCH you can do to design your OWN slimline die creations.

Have fun!
