Tutorial Thursday - Colouring pandas with Distress inks

Hi!
Tamara here with you with a short totorial on how I colour pandas with Distress ink pads.

What you need:
watercolour paper (hot pressed)
watercolour brush (000 or 00)
distress ink pads (hickory smoke, black soot, broken china, worn lipstick)
water
paper towel
acrylic block
Archival Ink Jet black

la-la land crafts items you need:

Step 1:
Items needed for watercolouring. Take stamp down from foil and use stamping tool for stamping it on watercolour paper. I'm using Archival Ink Jet black for stamping and it works great with Distress inks. Watercolouring paper must be high quality (Langton, Fabriano) or you won't be able to spread colour and blend.
IMPORTANT: Don't use a lot of water. Brush has to be more dry than wet. Clean it after every appy of colour and dry it out on paper towel.

Step 2:
Add distress ink colour to acrylic block. I chose panda for my tutorial. They are so cute but I actually had to google which parts of it are black and which are white. So ... ears, eyes, legs and arms are black. Head and body are white.
I started colouring its ears (black soot). I first apply a soft layer of colour. You can always make stronger colour but you can't make it lighter, especially the black. I take little bit of colour from acrylic block with my thin brush and start colouring.

Step 3:
After I did the ears I coloured eyes, arms and legs.

Step 4:
I added a few lines to the chin to make it stand out (using Hickory smoke), thin line under the head and a line across the belly.

Step 5:
I used Broken China distress ink for the "phone". Just a light first layer.

This is my image after first layer of colour.

Step 6:
I start applying second and third layer of colour to black parts of its body.

I often come back to certain parts and use 4-5 layers of colour on them.

I added a bit of Worn lipstick to its cheeks.

Step 7:
Here it is. Now it needs is a card. hehe ...

That's all from me today.
Hugs, t.
