My FAVORITE CHRISTMAS memory:
One of my very favourite Christmas Memories has to be our Christmas Tree debacle every year when I was little girl.
You see, we had an artificial tree, however every year my three sisters and I wanted a real one. My uncle who lived with us adored his nieces, and would do anything for us. So every year we got into to his Cherry Red Single Cab Classic Ford Pickup truck and headed out into the woods surrounding our acreage, in search of the "Perfect Christmas Tree". We would look for hours, some were to big, too small, too full of enormous holes... then just like in the movies we would see the Perfect Tree... and our sweet uncle would chop it down and put it on the back of his truck, only after we promised to clean any of the needles or sap off his truck bed (he was a notorious clean freak).
We hauled it home with him driving 30km/hour down the gravel road (because god forbid he got any dirt on his freshly washed truck), all while he told us of Christmas when he was a little boy, and he would receive an orange and some nuts in a paper bag, he said he looked forward to it all year.
Finally we would make it back home right when it was starting to get dark, while we would bring it in, my dad complained that there would be needles all stuck in his wool socks. So, finally we would put our beautiful freshly chopped down tree up, and as with every other year, it was either too tall, too small, or literally had one entire side of it missing (which we failed to notice when we chopped it down).
Then as with every other year, we hauled out the fake tree, set it up, decorated it with heinous tinsel that looked magical to us. And the real tree went to live back in the woods.
Some Memories need to be treasured in the sweetest corners of our hearts.
I love if you shared a holiday memory in the comments!!
Hugs,
Martha

ReplyDeleteWould also be great as a card!
DeleteWhen the kids were little, we'd drive around looking at xmas lights -- they wore pajamas and we stopped for hot chocolate on the way.

ReplyDeleteCute little box. You did an awesome job! Love the tree story as well. I have an artificial tree as well but love the smell of a real one, however, I hate the mess. LOL
ReplyDeletefirst looking at this was like WOW . not for me! however watching the video I could do that box! the top is beautiful and how nice would it be if the box was filled with a bunch of cards made just like the top is? a perfect gift for someone to use at Christmas time to send to their family and friends.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous box. Loved seeing it come together such beautiful papers and the top design is gorgeous
ReplyDeleteGorgeous box and embellishments, thanks for sharing the video tutorial. One of my fave Christmas memories as a child was receiving a life sized doll from my godfather. I love dolls and had many others but she held a special place in my little heart!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful box. Those papers are lovely. You've done a lovely job decorating it. Thanks for the video. I'm looking forward to the next 18 days off projects. One Christmas memory I have is the dresses we got at Christmas from our grandparents. They were only blessed with girls and every year our whole family would gather at their house on Christmas day. One gift we always received was a brand new dress. We called them our Papaw dresses. When the gifts were all opened we would put on our dresses and get a group picture. There were 7 of us and I know that I was always pleased with the dress I received.
ReplyDeleteOh, love the colors on this!
