Tutorial Thursday - Corner Pop Up Card

Hi All,
Debbie here today with a fun little tutorial based on a card I've seen done before. I'm not sure who came up with the idea but I have adapted it to the size I prefer to play with as I usually create 5 1/2" square cards.

Warning - Photo heavy post!

This is the front of my card and is decorated like I would any regular card. There is no worry about popping things up on this part.

As you open the card you can see that it's not your normal card on the inside!

Inside there's a whole little Winter scene hiding out! You have to be careful about how many things pop up on these 3 faces, you want the card to shut!

Now to show you how I made it ....

You'll Need
12" x 12" white card
Brown card
White glitter card
Copic Blending Paper
Copics
Black Momento Ink
Patterned paper
3D foam
Sparklets
Wobble Spring

Cut and score your 12" x 12" card following the template below

Fold the scored straight lines inwards and the diagonal scored line upwards. The panel with the X on will be decorated on the reverse side - that will be the front of the card.

Cut two 5 1/8" squares of blending paper. Using momento ink stamp the birch trees on to fill the page - you need 2 and a bit stamps across so mask off the last set and only stamp 2 of the 3 trees.

Using Copic E55 add in some shading to your trees, down one side and around the "cracks".

Use you Copic W3 to colour the background.

With the second one do the shading on the opposite side of the trunks as the shadow is in the back corner of the finished card.

Die cut the 2 reindeers, once each in white if your patterned paper is thin, once in patterned paper and the antlers in brown. Glue together. I also cut Reindeer 1 twice in the chipboard to make him sit a little higher than the other reindeer.

Using some shabby white frantage embossing powder add some "snow". Add an icicle border and stitched hill in glitter white to each of the tree panels before matting onto brown card. Glue the reindeers to the side that will sit on the right of your scene.

Decorate your front panel as below....

Create Marci's ice rink and glue down some snowflakes on the bottom panel. Colour up Marci to be added later.

Note - I discovered the snowflakes had to be completely stuck down so that they didn't get caught up and damaged when opening and shutting the card.

Attach the panels  as shown - do NOT attach the one with the reindeer just yet!

Add tape or glue to the triangle as below - the other part DOES NOT get attached. Add your panel.

Learning as I went I discovered the sparklets I had used on the base made it hard to open and close the card. I trimmed off the brown card from the bottom of my reindeer panel and attached a strip of brown card to the card base underneath so it looked OK when the card was open,

I also added some magnets to the back to hold the flap together when the card is open.

Glue the front panel onto the reverse.

Fold the card up and glue the back of the front to the panel it backs onto.

Use a wobble spring to add Marci to the inside scene. This gives her movement and pops her up without adding too much volume to the card when it's closed. Make sure you attach her with her feet slightly off the ground so she can move.
