Tutorial Thursday - Faux Leather Open Top Purse

Good morning! It's Sandie here and it's my turn to share a 'how-to' for Tutorial Thursday. I love to make bags and boxes, it's one of my favourite types of crafting so today I want to show you how I made a Faux Leather Open Top Purse featuring Shopping Marci. I first got the idea for this from Splitcoast Stampers, but the project was too small to accommodate Marci, so I came up with my own version of it.

Supplies you will need:
3 x A4 sheets of heavy cardstock
Cuttlebug, or similar
Embossing Folder
Scoring Board,
Distress Ink & Blending tool
Clear Embossing Powder
Embossing ink
Heat Gun
Strong double-sided Tape
Embellishments of Choice

Cut TWO pieces of cardstock to 5.25" x 6.25". These are the front and back of the purse.
On the 5.25" side mark in 0.5" from each end of the top .
Using a paper trimmer line up the 0.5" mark at an angle and cut right down to the bottom corner. Do this on both sides of each piece so that you have 4.75" at the top and 5.25" at the bottom of each.

On the 6.25" side, score at 4.75". Repeat for the other piece.

Fold the score line and then, taking your scissors, taper in the bottom flap

Emboss both pieces of card. You will need to run each through twice.

Once they've been embossed, take some distress ink and blending tool and ink all over

Using clear embossing powder, heat emboss the whole outside of both pieces.

Flip them over and adhere the 2 flaps at the bottom

For the sides you will need TWO 4.75" x 2" strips. As with the front and back of the purse, run it through the cuttlebug in the embossing folder. On the inside, score of each piece, on the 2" side, at 0.25 and 1.75". Flip it over to the front and score at the 1" mark down about 3"

Fold the scorelines leaving the tabs tucked underneath to ink and heat emboss. I've found that it adheres better with no heat embossing on the tabs.

Adhere the sides to the inside of the front and back of the purse.

For the handles, cut TWO 1"x 11.5" pieces of card. Emboss, ink and heat emboss both. Apply some strong tape to each end of both and adhere to the inside of the purse, about 0.5" down.

Colour up your image, trim her out and embellish the front of your purse to your liking.

I hope you are inspired to try out my tutorial today. Don't forget to link up if you do, we would love to see your take on it.

Have a great day
Sandie
