Tutorial Thursday - Stamped Candles

Hi All,
Debbie here today with an oldie but a goodie. With Christmas just around the corner I thought I would revisit a fabulous technique which makes perfect gifts for so many people - stamped candles.

You'll need:
A stamp or digi image
Momento ink or a printer
Tissue paper - the type used in packing with one shiny side
Copics
White candle
Waxed paper
Heat tool
Embellishments

There are some techniques that are made so much easier with a rubber stamp than with a digi - but since I am predominantly a digi user I'll go the hard way around and show you how to print out your digi for using on a candle.

Print your image onto copy paper and roughly tear a piece of tissue paper to cover well beyond the area of the digi. Tape it down securely, shiny side up and re-print your image. For a rubber stamp simply stamp onto a piece of tissue paper using momento ink, once again shiny side up.

Colour up your image on the shiny side of the tissue. Be aware that your copics won't blend as well on the tissue paper and will lift if you work them too much. Once you have your image coloured tear off the excess tissue as close the the image as possible. Torn edges will blend better into the candle wax than cut edges because they are less blunt.

Oooooopsie - I got a little carried away tearing off my excess - but no worries - the image will still work easily as the piece hasn't separated completely and sits ok back together.....see we ALL make mistakes ;)

Position your image on the candle.

Wrap some waxed paper tightly over the top of the image - making sure it sits smoothly where the image and surrounds need embedding.

Using your heat tool gently apply heat over the image. Make sure you don't hold it on one place for too long as you will melt the wax underneath and create a crater. Just gentle, continuous movement across the image until you see it embedding - it goes slightly darker and is obvious to the naked eye.

Here you should be able to make out the edge of the tissue before I start heating.

Once you've heated the area you'll see that torn edge disappears and the coloured image is slightly darker....this is what you want to happen.

Gently peel off the waxed paper and reveal your stamped candle :) Look at how vibrant the colours are...

Embellish as desired - I usually apply a piece of ribbon first, holding both ends down with pins pushed into the candle. Hot glue other elements on.

And here it is all finished....I added some star dust stickles to the flowers, candy cane and fluffy bits on his hat - it wouldn't be Christmas without sparkle...

And here's a candle I did a while ago. For this one I also used die cuts. You can simply use coloured tissue or colour some excess white tissue with your copics before die cutting. Apply in the same way you apply the image.

IMPORTANT - please add a note to remind your gift recipient to remove any flammable embellishments as the candle flame burns down.

I hope you try this out - it's so much fun and I please share if you do.
